RCA RP5640 CD Clock Radio with Auto Time Set Review

RCA RP5640 CD Clock Radio with Auto Time SetI've had this clock radio up for one night so far, and I'm fairly happy with it.It's got the basic features of a clock radio/alarm right, in that it has a battery backup, tells the time, and does both the regular radio and weather radio things, as well as more which I haven't explored yet, I think. It has a number of other features, such as the ability to play and wake up to CD, which I was looking for.I was able to burn a mini-CD and use that in this unit.

The unit includes autodimming based on (lack of) ambient light, and you can select any of four colors for the display: green, blue, white, amber. The autodimming feature gets very dim indeed.I'm going to have to move the unit closer than its predecessor, which was around 6ft away. That's not a problem.People who want a dimmed display to be dim may be quite happy with this unit.

One big deal from my point of view is similar to those included in reviews here of older models of this clock: the design of the controls is not optimized for ease of use, but for looks.I had to SEARCH for the snooze button! The CD load button is where the snooze button should be, which may trigger an awful lot of accidental unloads.I figure I'm not alone in not being completely awake when an ALARM CLOCK is going off, which should have been taken into account in the design.

Other than the interface design, which I do in fact consider of critical importance, I quite like the feature set here.It will randomly pick a track, or let you pick one ahead of time for each alarm. It can be configured to repeat either the whole disk or one track or to repeatedly pick a random track, as far as I could tell, having not read the instructions in detail, going from the options which popped up on the display as I operated one of the buttons labeled with 6-sided dice.

About the instructions, I figure I should mention that accuracy was apparently not a high priority. In the bit about setting the clock, it says to press a particular button repeatedly until the CLOCK SET indicator came on.Oh yes, I'm overwhelmed with the precision of these instructions.

The unit came with the battery backup installed, so I didn't actually have to set the time.It includes a slide switch on the bottom of the unit for selecting one of four time zones, completely specific to the Americas, as well as a button for selecting Daylight Savings time.

Anyway, I've had the unit for one night, and it worked. The snooze button in particular got a workout, as did both alarms, to make sure they worked well.Yes, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We'll see what happens over time. This unit replaced one by another company which worked fairly well for 26 years, so that's what this one is up against.

UPDATE: I've now had this clock radio a few more days, and I've learned more. It turns out that it DOES indeed have a nice big SNOOZE button, but it's perhaps harder to see than it might be because the "SNOOZE" characters are impressed in the long button under the CD door.

When an alarm goes off, the display turns red, which I consider a nice touch.

Given all the above, I'd like to revise my rating to four stars.

UPDATE: I've now had this clock for 2 1/2 years. This morning, the alarm didn't go off at all.I have it set to use the CD for a music source. When I woke up, it displayed "ERROR".I haven't been able to open the CD door yet.If this clock has become that kind of unreliable, it's headed for the electronics recycling at the local dump.I'll find a unit from a different manufacturer which takes a memory chip containing MP3 files instead.I said it had to compete with a clock that lasted 26 years, and it lasted more like 30 months.

It's a shame 'cause I like the display and I'm, well, used to the shortcomings I listed earlier. And I'm used to the way the "snooze" time changes all by itself to smaller numbers (I thought I just hit it!It *can't* be 10 minutes yet!...and it's not, it's 2 minutes). And I'm used to how non-random the "random track" selector is.Whoever designed "random" for this thing seemed to like the middle track of whatever CD you put in it.Or maybe it just likes track 10 always.I'm unclear on that.

Atomic Bathroom Digital Alarm Clock With suction cup Review

Atomic Bathroom Digital Alarm Clock With suction cupI bought this clock to help keep track of time in the morning, and it works really well. The clock sets itself to the atomic clock signal, which is nice because you don't want to be messing with buttons in a wet environment.Besides the time and date, it shows the day of the week, which is good for those mornings when you are really short on sleep.

The first time I turned it on, it took a few hours to sync with the atomic clock signal. The manual says that it does this at least once a day, usually at night when the radio signal is stronger. The time can be manually set too.But I just waited, and it was on time by sunrise, and has been on time ever since.

I was concerned about whether it would be sufficiently waterproof, but it is built well, and it's been in the shower for a couple months without any water issues. The suction cup also works very well, and it is still sticking to the tile after 2 months. It seems strong enough to survive a good drop, should it ever happen.

Note:To get it to stick to the shower, make sure to clean the tile until it is very smooth (this keeps the vacuum from escaping the suction cup).

Overall, this has made my morning routine much faster, since I don't lose track of time anymore.Very satisfied.

Timex Travel Alarm Clock Radio (T315S) (T315S) Review

Timex Travel Alarm Clock RadioGreat product. Indestructable clamshell close, lightweight, and small for travel, a new battery lasts for a year or two, loud alarm, big numbers and nighttime visibility, snooze seems to keep working no matter how many times you hit it, am and fm work fine. I've bought 6 of these in the past, given most of them away to guests who used them and really liked them, and logged on again today to buy a few more. I've bought dozens of different small travel alarm clocks over the past 30 years (which I also use for my main home alarm clock--I don't like switching when I travel), and this is by far the best ever. I'm buying more so that I don't ever run out--I worry they'll quit making it someday. Never have known any of them to miss an alarm, in spite of that other review to the contrary.

Coby CRA59BLK Digital AM/FM Alarm/Clock Radio, Black Review

Coby CRA59BLK Digital AM/FM Alarm/Clock Radio, BlackI was quite disappointed with this clock radio, meant to be a replacement for my 25+year-old GE. It was too light-weight (I'm sure the cats would have had it on the floor given a day or two), and the radio was dreadful. The buttons were cheesy (guess that means they didn't feel good) and -- well, suffice it to say that I initiated a return the very next day and ordered the RCA RP5400 Smart Snooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio instead - it's a keeper. Timex TM80 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for FlashDrive & SD Card or any iPod, MP3, CD or Cassette Audio Player Using the Line-In Audio Jack with Full-function Remote Control Review

Timex TM80 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for FlashDrive & SD Card or any iPod, MP3, CD or Cassette Audio Player Using the Line-In Audio Jack with Full-function Remote ControlAfter using this for a month, I'm still very pleased with it. The pros far outweigh the cons here.

First and best, this thing sounds GOOD. There are 5 tone presets to choose from. The ported speaker is able to produce amazing sound quality. 5 stars for this alone.

Clock displays time, and when no music is playing, the date. Automatic DST switch. Backlight has 4 levels one of which is off. Backlight color and display text is low contrast, hard for me to see.

Battery backup keeps all your settings.

It remembers quite a bit: If you hit the power button, whatever you were listening to is restored, be it MP3 or radio. If you hit the sleep button, it applies the volume setting in use the last time it turned itself off. If you hit the play button, it plays, from the beginning, whatever MP3 was playing when last turned off.

Sleep times of 120, 90, 60, 30 and 15 mins. After setting the sleep mode, if you click the sleep button again, it displays the time remaining before cutoff. When its time, the sound is gently faded out.

Random and repeat settings for MP3 play. Folder button so you can browse memory contents. ID tag info scrolls while track is played. Select SD slot or USB port for source. Line in for other stereo input. Recessed well for USB drives, with a cover. SD card sticks up a few millimeters from it's slot.

Full featured remote. Yes, it is handy if the clock is just out of reach on the nightstand.

Wake to: radio, mp3, buzzer. There is no way to select "wake to random mp3", but I get around that by putting a 3 second silent mp3 in the memory, select that as the wakeup track, and set for random play.

12 station memories for the radio, arranged in 3 banks, 2 for FM stations and 1 for AM.

The cons:

FM reception is so so. The stations I can get all sound good, but can't pull in distant ones.

The buttons on the front [sleep, power, alarms, wake to, radio preset bank selecter] are impossible to distinguish by touch. Adding a dot of hot glue to a few of them helped quite a bit.

The volume control feels like nothing is there. It works fine, just feels weird.

Can't read the time unless I put on my glasses.

___________

If I didn't already own one, I'd buy it again!

Advance Time Technology Solar-Powered LCD Alarm Clock, Black Review

Advance Time Technology Solar-Powered LCD Alarm Clock, BlackThis is a great clock, easy to read in any lighting conditions and the back-light is very bright, enough to use the clock for a night light. The thermometer is accurate and can be set to C or F easily. The 12/24 hour display is very handy and easy to set too. Aside from one feature this clock deserves five stars.

The alarm on this clock is very poor. First it is very high pitched, higher than any other alarm I have tried. Second it is not very loud, I have slept through it a couple times, it won't even wake the grandkid if it goes off when she is napping. The last and fatal flaw is that the alarm tone kicks off for a few seconds then shifts to a higher tone for a few more then quits, never to sound again. If you are any but the lightest sleeper you are going to need a backup alarm to make sure you wake up.

I moved it to my desk where it looks great and the alarm is loud enough to remind me of appointments.

RiteAlarm 5-1-1 Triple Weekly Alarm Clock with Weekday, Saturday and Sunday Alarms, Extended Daylight Saving Time, Automatic Snooze, Simple and Meaningful Buttons, Adjustable Volume, Gentle Sound Pattern, Pushing Backlight and Battery Operated Review

RiteAlarm 5-1-1 Triple Weekly Alarm Clock with Weekday, Saturday and Sunday Alarms, Extended Daylight Saving Time, Automatic Snooze, Simple and Meaningful Buttons, Adjustable Volume, Gentle Sound Pattern, Pushing Backlight and Battery OperatedLove the three alarm settings.I use the alarm M-F and Sunday (Saturday is turned off).I like that I don't have the set the alarm each night - it's always ready to go.I also like that daylight savings time is automatically handled.

I don't like the double-click necessary to turn off the alarm. There is no indicator letting you know that the alarm is off and not in snooze mode instead.A few times I've double tapped then left the room only to have my wife yelling a few minutes later that the alarm was still going off (oops, still in snooze mode).

Edited 5-26-2009
Clock is not so good anymore.
Gains about 5 minutes every 3 months and I have to reset the time. And now the backlight is not working anymore.

Coby CRA79 Digital Projection AM/FM Alarm Clock (Black) Review

Coby CRA79 Digital Projection AM/FM Alarm ClockNot to be too critical... the clock works and projects as designed but I question why the projection and the clock are two entirely separate clocks. You set the clock by rotating the bezel (?) and then you have to set the projection clock separately. Two separate clocks?

Another thing I didn't like was that the projection is not bright enough and you cannot rotate the projection. It points forward and up - not left and right. I'd actually like to be able to turn it upside down so that I can see it right side up on my ceiling with the clock itself facing me as well. This is not possible.

Other than that it's not defective. Excepts maybe in the sense that it is deficient in design.

LEGO Alarm Clock Radio - Blue Review

LEGO Alarm Clock Radio - BlueWe bought this as our four-year old's first clock - thought it would be perfect since he and his brother love all things Lego. But then we plugged it in.
The back-light on the numbers was so bright he couldn't sleep, even on the low-light setting. It lit up his whole room. And after just one day, the switch to turn the back-light on or off broke. You can't see the time when the radio is on - it only displays the radio station until you turn the radio off.It claims to be a digital turner, however we had to tune everything a few tenths away from the actual station number in order to get a decent signal.(For instance, to get the station on 101.1, you had to tune to 101.5.)
Needless to say, we returned it and do not recommend anyone buy it!

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual Alarms Review

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual AlarmsI spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect alarm clock for my bedroom and, as you can tell, I am still looking. The Sangean RCR-2 certainly has some attractive features like the atomic clock, which took a few hours to set itself, and the nice styling but it fails in so many areas as an alarm clock. First, and most importantly, the display is unreadable. It is very busy with lots of symbols and numbers but using very thin LCD numerals for the time and the off axis viewing angle is very small; you must basically face it head on. Worst of all, however, is the blindingly bright orange backlight with makes is impossible for night adjusted eyes to read the display if you want to check the time in the middle of the night. It is so bright as to cast shadows throughout the room. I keep it across the room but I can't imagine trying to sleep with this minor sun positioned on the nightstand.Sure, you can turn off the backlight but then the clock is invisible at night. Maybe LEDs are not cool but they make a lot more sense for an alarm clock. Also, it takes at least four button presses to turn on the alarm as opposed to one on my old alarm.

Product Description:
This modern clock radio is a step above the clock radios of the past. For starters, the radio updates its time automatically from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. While this may force you to work or school on time, the benefits of a constantly updated timepiece are critical in this fast-paced world. The radio even adjusts itself automatically for daylight saving time. The illuminated LCD screen gives you vital information, including: time, date, day of week, sleep, wake times, naptime, and radio information. With the gentle wake option, you can choose for the radio's volume to start low and slowly build over time. The AM/FM radio has fourteen presets for individual programming. The clock radio also features an automatic preset system which scans and memorizes available radio stations. With the two alarms you can set wake-up times on the same or different days of the week. The sleep timer is a nice feature for those who use the radio as a sleep aid. There is a headphone jack for people who want to listen to the radio without bugging the person besides them. The clock radio's color is silver and its styling is modern and sleek.

Sangean RCR-22 AM/FM Atomic Clock Radio Review

Sangean RCR-22 AM/FM Atomic Clock RadioI was looking for a high-quality alarm clock after about 12 years with an unimpressive Sony Dreammachine. This clock delivered on that front, and unlike most consumer electronics devices I've purchased in the past several years, it is clear that lots of thought was put into this device (and very little into the manual).

PROS:
There are tons of little nuances that the manual does not detail that I've discovered using the clock for a few weeks. For example the display can be dimmed with a dial on the bottom (which on my unit did not take effect until my alarm goes off the first time). The clock remains dimmed at your preset level, but goes to full brightness when the alarm goes off, making the clock easier to find. Combined with the pleasing blue light and the HWS (makes the alarm bell go from soft to loud) it's really nice to wake up to.

Another thoughtful touch is that alarm indicators only light within 24 hours of your alarm. Either alarm can be set to go off on particular days, with any combination of Su-Sa set for each alarm (i.e. alarm1 can be set for Monday, Thursday and Sunday, no weekday/weekend restrictions like some others). The alarm indicators however only light up when your alarm will ring the next morning. Very nice.

Other functions like the snooze, nap timers, etc. all work well. Like most alarms you need some time to figure out how it works, but after a few mornings most functions were intuitive.

The radio functions well, and pulls in way more stations than the Dreammachine. The speaker is fine, that is to say neither exceptionally good or exceptionally poor. If I want the ultimate music experience, I have an expensive stereo for that.

The clock is a true atomic time clock (not just a "preset" clock like many others). I don't know all the nuances of atomic cock synchronization, but the weather and location of the antenna seem to affect the two atomic clocks I have at home. Try moving the antenna towards the window if you have problems.

CONS
It is nicer than average plastic and construction, but still not going to win any design awards. I can't figure out why all alarm clock designs are frozen in 1992.

The manual was clearly written by a bunch of engineers. It is no nonsense, and explains how to set/use everything, but does not mention any of the usability features I noted above. For example if it's Monday and you set an alarm for thursday, You might wonder why the alarm indicators do not all light up. No mention at all in the manual. I thought the clock was broken since the dimmer did not function until the first time an alarm went off. Again, no mention in the manual of what turned out to be a very nice feature, and one I almost returned the clock for!

Another example is the unwieldly "Time Machine" antenna for the atomic clock. It is big and odd looking, but fits nicely to the back of the clock. Again, no mention in the manual save for a single line drawing.

When I initially plugged the clock in, all kinds of crytic numbers flashed on the display while it synced the time, again, no mention of what was happening or why in the manual. The manual does tell you how to DO everything, but does not explain WHY certain things work the way they do, or explain the various nice features someone clearly took time to think through.

Overal a great buy, especially for something you'll likely use every day for 5-15 years. I would like to see a better manual, autodimming of the display (it is BRIGHT when set to max), Sangean using a designer that is somewhat current, and perhaps a user manual rewrite, other than that, this clock works very well and will be on my nightstand for years to come.

I agonized over what to put on my nightstand (everything from Bose to Timex) and am very happy with my choice.

Elgin QA Twin Bell Alarm Clock, Silver Review

Elgin QA Twin Bell Alarm Clock, SilverThis model is a great alarm clock to use for either nostalgia, to use for a desk clock (like I do), or for a regular alarm clock. It has a lighted dial, and a snooze feature - both which are operated by pressing down on the handle of the clock. The pewter finish goes great with my black and gray decor on my computer desk, and would be great for any modern setting, while still looking like an old fashioned clock to boot!

It also has a loud alarm that would be good for people who need an alarm clock to wake them up, but not one that needs winding every day, as it takes one 'C' battery. The ends of the hands are also illuminated for night viewing when the lighted dial feature is not activated.

For the money, it is a great buy, and unlike the other poster, I've had my clock with the same battery in it for the past year, and it hasn't drained down yet!

RCA RP5415 Clock Radio with Digital/Analog Display and Line-in for MP3 PlayersI had the same issue as one of the other reviewers where my volume knob did not work... so I returned to Amazon and ordered from another vendor believing Amazon received a bad lot.I was correct, second clock worked perfectly.

This is a "Great" little clock radio... easy to use and to set alarms.Separate dial knobs in the rear make setting the time and two alarms a breeze. My wife loves the ease of use as well. She never used the old clock ever though it was dual alarm (she did not want to learn the crazy process of setting the old clock) but now she is always using this one.Thing is so simple you barely need a manual but don't worry its there and fairly easy to follow.Lots of options on this clock, alarm from radio to buzzer that slow escalates in volume, radio has digital tuning.Line option for MP3 player and variable brightness for clock.Clock can be analog or digital. My wife likes this as well, she thinks its cute.Snooze and sleep timer are programmable and the alarm even works if power is out ... though have not tested this feature yet.

In short, the clock with its small footprint was exactly what we wanted... only reason why I did not give it highest rating was due to first unit with faulty volume knob.

Product Description:
The RP5415 clock radio is the perfect companion in the morning. The transflective display can be customized to read digital or analog readouts, so you can match the clock to your personal style. The LCD display is in a cool blue color which is light on the eyes and makes it easy to read. The clock can be adjusted to two different levels of brightness to accommodate for different lighting situations. The LCD display also has a digital frequency readout, so you can precisely tune to your favorite radio station. Connect your MP3 player to the audio input jack and enjoy your music any time of the day without having to wear headphones. The dual alarm can be programmed so that you can choose to wake-up to the buzzer or to your favorite radio station. It features a programmable snooze that you can set to ring between 1 to 30 minutes, or by the default setting of every 9 minutes. The snooze button is large and takes up a large amount of the top of the unit, making it easy to find when you're still half asleep.

La Crosse Technology WT-5360U Atomic Projection Alarm Clock Review

La Crosse Technology WT-5360U Atomic Projection Alarm Clock1. Atomic accuracy.
2. Indoor thermometer.
3. Projects the time on the ceiling (in red, for view in the dark only)
4. Very readable LCD display.
5. Snooze alarm.

All for about 20 bucks!

You can adjust the brightness of the projection (three levels plus "off").As well, you can rotate the on-ceiling time display in 90-degree increments so it works if the clock is set up behind you, in front of you, or to either side of you.I have no clue how they made this possible (a mirror?a motor?two displays?), but it works great.

AND you can rotate the projector forward and back so you can project on a wall if you wish.

When I bought this I was worried about focus.Don't.It is fixed focus for any distance over about 4 feet.No worries about focus.

You can display seconds on the LCD clockface, but not through the projection display, which is just 4 digits and a colon.

It will work without the (included!) AC adapter, except that the ceiling projection will not be continuous. It'll turn on momentarily when you press the snooze button.

No complaints except there's no way I can find to *manually* set the seconds to zero at the new minute.

A hint: don't power up the clock until it is pretty late at night, like around midnight.Receiving the atomic clock signal is hard during the day, and you may find it hard to bear waiting for the clock to set itself if you power it up before bedtime.I'm not sure how reliably the clock will set itself if you lose patience and set it manually.

A very nice, fun clock at a great price!

Product Description:
No more patting around for the glasses to check the time after than early morning alarm. This projection clock beams huge digits, visible to the blurriest of eyes, on walls, ceilings and other smooth surfaces. Every time it's plugged in or turned on, the clock sets itself for precision time by receiving radio signals from the official US Atomic Clock. That means it also shifts automatically to and from Daylight Savings Time, so there's no more showing up to work an hour late or early twice a year. The unit also reports indoor temperatures and features an LED backlight for easy readouts without using the projection feature. The projection arm rotates for proper viewing at any angle-without rolling over. Open the eyes. Read the time. Close the eyes. An automatic focus mechanism presents clear readouts on any smooth surface. And, a perpetual calendar helps you stay on schedule. Hang it on the wall or set it up on a desk with the detachable stand. AC power adapter included.

Chaney Instruments Sojourn LCD Travel Alarm Clock Review

Chaney Instruments Sojourn LCD Travel Alarm ClockFirst, I want to say that you should *always* have a battery-powered travel alarm clock in your luggage, with a spare battery. This is one of those basic must-haves for traveling. I have stayed at hotels which provided no clock at all. Some have a clock with no alarm. Some have a plug-in clock, and then the power goes out. Some have a really complex clock that you can't figure out how to set the alarm on! By always having one with you, you are sure that you wake up on time and keep track of your schedule.

There are plug-in ones, but you have the problems of converters in foreign countries, of finding an outlet that is usefully near the bed, and again of power outages. It's much better to go with a battery powered one.

I like the fold-up design of this one. When it is shut, the display and buttons are all protected. Your luggage can go through the most gorilla-like of baggage claim systems and come out unscathed.

The unit is very easy to use. A simple slider sets the alarm on or off, and you get a visual indicator when it's on. You slide another lever to set the alarm or time. There's a snooze button which also turns on the light temporarily. You can set the hour and minute separately, which is a great improvement over systems that make you cycle slowly through 23 hours to wrap around to the time you want.

Down sides? Well, it is cheap plastic - but then again that makes it really light. I really wish it was in an always-lit state for late night glancing, but that would probably drain the battery quickly. So I think in general it's a great unit for the price. I've used it for quite a while and it's always come in handy. Even the times I haven't needed it, it's been nice to know it's there in the corner of the bag

Emerson Radio Hot Wheels HW800 Snore Slammer Alarm Clock Radio (Red/Black) Review

Emerson Radio Hot Wheels HW800 Snore Slammer Alarm Clock RadioWe got this alarm clock radio for my 6yr old son for Christmas, his first alarm clock. He loves it. You can set it to wake up by radio, or the Hot Wheel soundwhich is wheels peeling out and an anouncer telling the racers to "START YOUR ENGINES", then the wheels peel out again and says something about racing for the checkerd flag. The volume dial and the radio tuner dial are wheels and the radio has a pretty good sound for an alarm clock. Great buy

Emerson CKS1702 SmartSet Alarm Clock Radio Review

Emerson CKS1702 SmartSet Alarm Clock RadioThis thing is pretty nice because if the power goes out it'll automatically reset to the correct time (either the one set at the factory or the one that you've tweaked, if the factory preset was a bit off). It's not atomic, but it's the next best thing. The radio comes in pretty good too, depending on how you have the antenna positioned (the FM antenna is built into the power cable, and the AM antenna is an iron rod built into the case). It keeps the time when the power is out by way of a small lithium "button" battery. The instructions say that, depending on how long it was on the shelf at the store, the battery could last up to 5 years and that when it does get low a light will flash in the bottom-right corner to alert you. It can even be set to awake you at different times set by you on weekdays or weekends, although the process to do this is a bit convoluted, but if you read the instructions carefully it's easy enough. You can set the alarm to wake you up by way of the radio, or a beeping noise. The beep should awaken even the heaviest of sleepers (after all, it wakes me up). The instructions say that the beeping will rise in volume until you press the alarm button to reset it until the same time next day, or until you press the snooze button to make it sound again in 8 or 9 minutes (can't remember the exact number). Just make sure you don't press the snooze button 7 times or it will NOT sound again until the next day! So keep track of how many times you push the snooze button, get up the first time or risk oversleeping. Overall, this is a very nice, affordable alarm clock. I must also say that the instructions are very informative and easy to understand.

Elgin Battery Powered LCD Alarm Clock with Nap Timer 3408E - Silver Review

Elgin Battery Powered LCD Alarm Clock with Nap Timer 3408E - SilverAs a student who takes frequent naps, this clock could have been fantastic for me. I'd never heard of the idea of a nap timer before seeing this clock. Now I have. And my life will never be the same. I probably get a good 2-3 seconds more napping per rest period because of this clock. I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you nap as much as I do, it adds up.

Also, classes are on different times on different days, so the ability to quickly change the time of the alarm is really important. This clock is relatively speedy. Although there is no button to change hours directly, the inclusion of an "increase" and "decrease" button more than makes up for that. I haven't done extensive testing, but my alarm changes feel fast.

The display is tilted up a little too much for my taste. But that's because I keep it on my desk, which is just above my bed. I haven't had any problems with the viewing angle being especially narrow, though, given the way the LCD is pointed.

The volume is LOUD. I took the advice of one of the other reviews and put some scotch tape over the speaker. This helps a lot, and now the volume is perfectly normal.

I like the fact that the features are minimal. Too many other alarm clocks are cluttered with useless stuff like the temperature and time zone. I know where I am, and I know if I'm cold. If I want temperature and time zone, I'll buy myself a map and a thermometer.

Another feature that's important to me is "smackability." When I wake up in the morning, I want to be able to flail my arm out to the side to smack the snooze button without sending the alarm clock careening onto the floor. This clock has a wide base, so it won't be going anywhere. However, the button on top is pretty stiff. It is made to be pressed, rather than smacked. Thus, my morning flailing has to be a little more controlled than I'd like, which means I have to be a little more awake. That's why I gave this clock 4 stars instead of 5.

RCA RPC100 AM/FM Clock Radio with Extra Large LED Display Review

RCA RPC100 AM/FM Clock Radio with Extra Large LED DisplayI don't get the bad reviews, at all. The clock has a large, easy to read face with a subtle light, which means no struggle to read the time when you're waking up, and no intrusion when you're trying to fall sleep. It includes an adjustable backlight, an AUX jack for your MP3 players, and 2 awesome settings: NAP, which lets you set a quick nap time - up to about 90 minutes I believe - without having to change the actual alarm time, plus a SLEEP setting to listen to your radio and have it turn off automatically when you pass out.

Radio reception for me is great, and the clock includes a mini display to the right that shows the preset alarm time when the alarm is turned on. I love this, since I know, as long as I see a time there, I know it is on. Otherwise, it says OFF. Way handy compared to other clocks which have you hit Snooze or some other button to confirm the alarm time.

Great clock overall! A+

Casio Snooze Daily Alarm Travel Clock Review

Casio Snooze Daily Alarm Travel ClockI've had this travel clock for almost 10 years. I like the display a lot. The display is not lit (in other words, you can't read it in the dark) unless you push the blue button in the upper right hand corner. It does not illuminate a dark room unless you want to check the time. The back light is just right in that it doesn't blind you when you check it in the dark. It takes a soft touch to activate the back light. Just brush it with a finger. The numerals are big enough to read without glasses, and the back light turns off automatically after a few seconds. It seems very durable, and mine has been bounced off the floor many, many times. The battery cover is not very secure, flying off with the battery when it hits the floor after a clumsy attenpt to check the time in the dark. This is a problem because the clock will then need to be reset (see below). I lost the batter cover after knocking the clock on the floor in a hotel. I would advise, should this happen to you, to serch until you find the cover. Tape will work to hold the battery in place without the cover, but you will miss the battery cover. In fact, if I had it to do over, I'd securely tape the battery cover in place.

Unfortunately, the set controils are extremely difficult to use due to tiny size. If you have less than perfect vision, you might not be able to see the time/alarm set markings without a magnifier.

I use this little clock by my bedside at home, and I take it eveywhere I go. It has taken a lot of abuse, but with the exception of the lost battery cover, this little clock seems as good as new. It uses one standard AA battery which I've only replaced once or twice in ten years. Even though it is painfully difficult to set and adjust, I have not found a better replacement. I'd buy another if this one were to be lost.

Seiko Bedside Alarm Clock Silver-Tone Metallic Case Review

Seiko Bedside Alarm Clock Silver-Tone Metallic CaseI'm always looking for the Nirvana product...best briefcase, cellphone, carry-on bag, toiletries container...and that's just for travel.I'm obsessive about my golf clubs, cars, televisions, etc.So when I stayed in a luxury hotel in Palo Alto, CA, this somewhat normal looking clock was on the nightstand.I looked at it, no cord, but a very large and readable face. And what was this little dial on the lower right?I spun it and it was the most effective and easy to use alarm setting dial I had ever seen...on the front of the clock!!!!I noticed it had a simple alarm on/off on the right and a large snooze button on top. Also, on the lower left was what looked like some kind of sensor. So I set the alarm and a placed a backup wakeup call as I usually do to the front desk. When I turned the light off, I noticed that the clock face was glowing green from a small LED in the lower part of the dial!Turned the light back on and it went off. Turned the alarm off and the light off and the face glowed orange! So, turned the alarm back on, face glows green again!!!!So, if you're an idiot like me, then you get "reassurance" that the alarm is on if it's green. And if you want it even brighter, you press the snooze on top.The alarm is escalating, and incredibly effective. This thing should be in the MOMA for a design award. One of the best and most fairly priced items I've ever purchased on Amazon.I regularly give them for gifts to my team and friends.Only problem, it's a little large to travel with.BTW, I asked the front desk if I could keep the clock and they could charge it to my room and they said "sure, people ask to keep that clock all the time!"Might want to order some LiIon batteries, 3 AAs to go along with it.I think the silver one is cooler looking than the black one.

Timex T309T Alarm Clock Radio with Nature Sounds (Titanium) Review

Timex T309T Alarm Clock Radio with Nature SoundsThis is a nice little item. It has good sound quality and three types of alarm: radio, buzzer, and nature sounds (there are 3 or 4 of these to choose from). You can specify whether an alarm setting works every day, only on weekdays, or only on weekends. Each alarm setting has its own radio station or nature sound (and volume) associated with it. It's got a nice big snooze button on top, which doubles as a display dimmer (my favorite feature).
I've come across just a couple disappointments in the week that I've had it.
- I thought I'd be able to create a radio-alarm setting for weekdays and another radio-alarm setting (same time, but different station) for weekends. Can't do it. You get one setting for each type of alarm.
- The radio preset buttons are arranged in a line across the front of the unit. The band setting button is in that line too, to its left. So if you want preset #1, you've got to punch the second button. Hitting the first button switches you to AM.
All in all, though, it's worth the [money].

Product Description:
The Timex T309TT triple-alarm clock radio lets you wake to your choice of AM/FM radio, buzzer, or any of four nature sounds (wind, brook, surf, and forest spring). Yes, you read correctly: the triple-alarm system lets you set three independent alarm times and wake sounds.
Even if you're waking alone, you might want to set the device to trigger, say, soothing nature sounds at 7 a.m., a gentle radio station at 7:15, and a blaring buzzer at 7:30 just in case your heinie is still in the sack when it ought to be in the shower. Use the convenient 7-5-2 system to set your alarm(s) for the week, weekdays, or the weekend.
Store up to 18 radio stations in memory, accessible through six one-touch tuning buttons. The radio offers drift-free PLL (phase-locked loop) digital tuning and displays station frequency and preset numbers.
Time to crash? Drift into sleep to the radio or soothing nature sounds using the programmable sleep timer. The unit also offers a 99-year calendar (2000 to 2099) with year/month/day display and a sure-alarm battery backup system.
What's in the Box

TIMEX T101B Extra Loud LED Alarm Clock (Black) Review

TIMEX T101B Extra Loud LED Alarm ClockIf you just need an alarm clock to tell the time and get you out of bed get this one.It more than gets the job done.I was looking for a bedside clock, no radio, no projection, no gimmicks, and after a very very long internet search came across this nice little clock. If you're just looking for a basic alarm clock for a low price this is the one to get!It has more bells and whistles than a regular clock, 9 minute snooze (of course it MUST have the SNOOZE feature), automatic reset/off alarm button, on/off alarm button, and loud/soft alarm noise button. This really will look attractive on your bedside/living room end table/kitchen counter and it comes in different colors too.The black looks very attractive on my bedside table. It has good heft/weight to it too, giving it a feeling of a quality made product that will last for years. The brightness of the display is perfect, not too dim, not too bright.I was looking at analogue clocks but this one is a beauty compared to the two previous analogue clocks I had and has a PM light indicator, Alarm On indicator, and a low back up battery indicator besides. The alarm will go off for two hours before automatically turning off (leave home/apt. and forget to turn it off), and the snooze feature will go off every 9 minutes as long as you keep pressing it, and the feature will automatically turn itself off after 2 hours (do you really need more than that, reset the alarm). It is nice and compact so it doesn't take up too much room.Besides this clock is electric so batteries are no longer a concern. This is a nice quality, attractive product that seems like it will last a very long time (much better quality than my Timex battery powered analogue clock, much better looking, and it's both heavier and smaller at the same time).Other reviews state the snooze button is located too close to the alarm off button (may accidently press it instead), but I have had absolutely no problem distinguishing between the two buttons, especially given their size, and it isn't even a concern to me. I should also include that I thought analogue was the way to go, but the digital display on this is of high quality, is easy on the eyes at night, and having reach over to press a button to see the time in the dark is no longer an issue. So get this clock it's a no-brainer with more than enough features to ensure this is the alarm clock you will be glad you purchased.I think it's worth more than I paid for it!

Sony ICF-C492 Large Display AM/FM Clock RadioMy trusty old Sony alarm clock's radio selectivity was getting on my nerves, and the cheap General Electric model I chose to replace it did not measure up.Fortunately, this new Sony easily surpasses both its older brand-mate as well as the ergonomically-botched offering from GE.Advantages include precise, dial-adjustable display brightness, better radio reception and selectivity, and simple controls for sleepyheads to understand and operate.Audio is clear but undistinguished--about what one would expect from a clock radio.Nevertheless, for such a low price that is forgiveable.

Moshi Voice Control Digital Alarm Clock Review

Moshi Voice Control Digital Alarm ClockMaybe I have a different version of this clock than other reviewers BUT
- you CAN change the volume, the buttons are on the back and there are three settings
- you CAN change the night light from single to multi so you don't have to have a disco show
- yes, there are only three sleep sounds but they last 15 minutes, not 5.Granted they are not the best, but this clock was really not made for that and would probably do best by eliminating that feature
until it is fine tuned.
- you have to speak the commands exactly as directed or you will get errors. For example, you have to say "hello Moshi" and then "set alarm" NOT "set the alarm" or it will not understand the command and do nothing.
- I would like the option of setting the nightlight to a preferred color however.
- the nightlight colors are a little too bright, but gorgeous!
- if you don't have the nightlight on in the dark, you can't see the clock. How could this have been overlooked when making this clock?
- It is made of plastic but I don't think it looks cheap.I have never had a glass alarm clock before so why should this one be different?
- it is made in such a way that if you have cats, like I do, walking around your nightstand they cannot change the settings or turn your radio on jolting you awake. This is priceless to me!

You do not have to listen to a full explanation every time you set it unless you pause too long after saying giving a command. If you wait too long, it will give you an explanation. One in a while it will confuse a command or a time set but it is rare for me.In fact, I make far more errors on clocks I have had to manually set than this clock has.

If you plug it in the wall, the unit operates by voice command but the alarm will shut off by touch or voice. If you install batteries, you can operate everything manually from the back buttons but it is not practical because they are very small. You can turn the alarm clock off by touch regardless if it running on batteries or is plugged in.

Do I think there is room for improvement?Of course!

Is it worth the $49.95?For me it was!

Elgin Folding Travel Alarm Clock, Black Review

Elgin Folding Travel Alarm Clock, BlackThis clock fulfills all of your travel needs. I spent a half hour slogging thru the dozens of Amazon travel clocks to find this one.I can't believe no one else has reviewed it.I refuse to trust wake up services. When I have to leave for the airport at 4am, I want my own reliable alarm clock to wake me up.

My old digi-clock of twenty years just pooped out.I liked it cuz it was digital (no ticking sound), small (size of pack of cigarettes, EZ time set and inexpensive at $10+.The EZ time set is the most important feature for me.I hate those clocks that one has to run thru 23 hours to change the time back by one hour. This clock allows one to +/- just one hour (or minute). It is essential when cruising in the Carribee or Mex Riviera where the time zone changes almost nightly.

We don't wear wrist watches any more and it is nice to whack the clock in the middle of the night to see the time.Is it almost time to get up at 6am or can one roll over at midnight?

Equity 31038R LCD Calendar Alarm Clock with TemperatureI just bought this item from J&R Music World. The first thing to know is that the description "Metallic Red Case" refers to the color/hue of the clock and not its composition, as it has an all-plastic body made in China and no metal components at all (at least on the outside).

Something else to know is that this alarm clock requires three (3) AA batteries and does not have an AC electrical cord to plug in. This makes it incredibly portable, but necessitates having fresh batteries on hand.

In addition, the superglow (Indiglo-like) blue backlight display effect seen in the product picture can only be achieved by holding down the Snooze/Light bar which quickly drains the batteries, so use this feature sparingly. Otherwise, the display is normal black alpha-numeric characters on a gray LCD background that cannot be seen in the dark (as opposed to, say, an LED display).

Furthermore, the temperatature sensors on both [lateral] sides of the clock are sensitive, so if you place it next to a heat-producing source (like a lit incandescent lamp, set-top box, desktop Computer CPU, hot coffee mug, etc.) the temperature reading will be inaccurately high.

Other than these issues, the Equity Digital LCD Calendar Alarm [Clock]with Indoor Temperature works as just as advertised, but I gave it only three (3) stars because I strongly feel that the description is very misleading. Caveat emptor.

American Innovative Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight Review

American Innovative Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and NightlightA few posters have complained that the product is too bright and you cannot have it totally dark in the room and still have the green light come on in the morning. But you actually CAN have it only turn green in the morning with no yellow light at night. This is a complaint I've seen on a few reviews on here, so I thought I'd post this clarification for others who may be considering buying this product.

From the American Innovative website FAQ on this product:
"I am using the "Ok to wake!" feature. Can I set just the green light to come on in the morning?
Yes. If you do not want the yellow light on during the night, you can set just the green light to come on in the morning. The LIGHT ON time will be set to the desired "Ok to wake!" time (i.e. 7am), the LIGHT OFF time is set to the time you want the green light to turn off (i.e. 9am) and the LIGHT change time must be set equal to the OFF time (i.e. 9am). With this set up the green light will come on at 7am and turn off at 9am."

Product Description:
Teach Me Time! is an adorable child's bedside alarm clock, time-teaching tool, and dual-color nightlight all in one. This educational clock advances along with children. From ages 3-5, Teach me Time!'s color-changing nightlight teaches kids to stay in bed until it's Ok to wake. The nightlight timer can be programmed to turn on and off at any time of the day, so parents can customize the "Ok to wake" time, when the glow color changes from yellow to green. Green means go!For ages 5-7, an interactive talking game helps school-age kids learn to tell time on both analog and digital clocks. The game is designed to create a dialog between parents and children about time, keeping everyone involved in the learning process. The game is fully adjustable, with five difficulty levels allowing parents to restrict which times are displayed (for example, just "round" hours) so one can start simple and progress in difficulty as sons or daughters mature. For children 7 and above, Teach me Time! is a fully functional alarm clock with a snooze function, just like mom's or dad's. The clock is white with interchangeable colored bezels. Blue, pink, and yellow are included. The clock face display options can be adjusted to show just the analog, just the digital clock, or both at once. Volume and brightness settings are also adjustable. A safety-certified external AC adapter and a set of optional AAA batteries are included. Teach Me Time! has been tested for lead paint content and has passed all related tests as defined by the ASTM F963-07 sec. 4.3.5.1 safety specification.

Moshi Voice Controlled Talking Alarm Clock Review

Moshi Voice Controlled Talking Alarm ClockPros: First, I want to say, once set, it's great for someone who just wants to say "Time" and hear it, and the unit looks great.Cons:1) SETTING THE TIME WAS DIFFICULT.(I bought the regular full-size Moshi.)I speak clearly and distinctly, and there were no other sounds in the room.I said "10:20 a.m." and Moshi kept setting various times, like "6:04" which sounds nothing like 10:20. On the 12th try, Moshi set the correct time, and I said well, at least now that the time is set, it'll be a long time before I have to go through that again...but as I pushed it back further on the table, the plug fell out again, and had to re-set the time; but this time, I put the BATTERIES IN FIRST, and after another 15 tries, and 6 plug fall-outs, the time was set, and no matter how many times the back plug fell out, the batteries kept the time.Hallelujah!2)THE LITTLE PLUG IN THE BACK FALLS OUT CONSTANTLY, it just doesn't click in and hold in place. This led to the discovery of a 3rd problem: 3) THE VOICERECOGNITION DOESN'T WORK AT ALL IF IT'S ON BATTERY ALONE.I noticed that each time the cord fell out so easily, Moshi said "Voice Trigger Mode has been DISABLED."And when plugged back in, Moshi immediately announces, "Voice Trigger Mode is ENABLED."Apparently, when the plug is out, it still keeps the time with the batteries, but it can't operate the voice recognition.Sure enough, the directions confirm this. So, if you have the plug-falling-out problem, you better duct-tape it into the back like I did if you want to use the voice trigger mode.
(note: there is a Mini-Moshi travel size that works on battery only- so I guess it operates on Touch-Trigger only).4) TOUCH TRIGGER IS NOT SENSITIVE - The Touch mode on the center top of the display sometimes works after a series of light touches (waiting for response after each touch), but most times you have to keep pressing it rather strongly, (again waiting for response after each press); ... usually only a hard press works, but since I figure this would break it fairly quickly, I opt to keep it plugged in and use the voice trigger mode only.
I bought this for my mother age 90 who can't see clocks (macular degeneration), and so after explaining she should just say "Hello Moshi" and when it lights up green and says "Command Please" all she has to do is say "Time" and the voice is loud and clear with the time.Works great this way, so I'm happy with it.Since the touch mode really doesn't really work well, I didn't even tell her about it.(Can't comment on Alarm function, we don't need it).

So, Tips: Put Batteries in First before setting time, etc.
Moshi can only hear you when it is green (when it's dark, it's only listening for "Hello, Moshi"; You must say `Hello Moshi" before asking it anything. You can stop Moshi from talking and go back to rest by saying "Cancel."To stop the night light from cycling colors and stay on one, there's a switch in the back for "Multi" or "single" color. When it's plugged in and set to IVR on the back, the unit will accept both Voice (IVR) or Touch triggers, but voice-command trigger only works when plugged in.

Product Description:

Sure, there are other talking clocks out there. The Moshi Voice Control (VC) Alarm Clock, however, is not a talking clock. The Moshi VC Alarm Clock is the first 'listening clock' that allows you set the time and alarm by your voice alone.

With the Moshi Voice Control (VC) Alarm Clock, you can ask for the time while getting ready in the bathroom, set the alarm or turn off the alarm without moving from the comfort of bed, and know the current temperature all the way from the closet. No more small buttons and no more impossible programming. Just speak, and Moshi listens. We believe that you should be able to control your electronics and not the other way around. With the Moshi VC Alarm Clock, you are in complete control by using our voice activated commands. Simply activate Moshi by saying, "Hello Moshi".
